Academics Activities

• The Department conducts National Medical Commission recognized MD Post Graduate Course in Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion [ M.D., IH & BT] since 2005 with annual intake of five candidates from the academic year 2017-2018
• Introduction of Postgraduate training programme in Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology as a distinct specialty would provide adequate trained manpower in the Blood Transfusion services on par with developed countries. This would encourage research in the field of Modern Blood Banking and provide services in an updated manner.

• 26th September 2014 – CME on “Tacts and Trends of Transfusion Medicine: An Update” by the Department of Pathology, Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur – PGs participated. PGs participated in PG Quiz programme and won First prize with Certificate and Memento.
• 27th September 2014 – CME on “STANCLOT – CME on Coagulation Disorders” by the Department of Pathology, Stanley Medical College, Chennai – PGs participated.
• 10th October 2014 – Assistant Professor attended the Dissemination Workshop on Guidelines for Blood Transfusion in Obstetric Practice conducted in the Auditorium, Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, DMS Complex, Chennai-6 and presented on “Rational Use of Blood and Blood Components”.
• 11th October 2014 – Professor and H.O.D was a “Guest speaker” with a talk on “Complications of Blood Transfusion” for the CME on “Rational Use of Blood” at SVIMS, Tirupati.

• 15th October 2014 – Professor and H.O.D presented a Guest Lecture on the topic “Clinico-Pathological Syndrome in Immune-Mediated Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT Type-II)” 39th Annual National Conference of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohematology (ISBTI) – TRANSCON 2014 at Patiala, Punjab.
• 15th to 19th October 2013 – Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohematology (ISBTI) – Annual Conference at Patiala, Punjab – PGs participated in Workshop & Quiz Programme and Won Second Prize with Memento and Certificate.
• Professor and H.O.D had given an interview on topics related to the blood transfusion services in All India Radio (two sessions 15 minutes each) Mylapore, Chennai-4 which is to be broadcast in a short while.

• 14th & 16th November 2014 – Annual National Conference of Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine (ISTM) at Ahmedabad – PGs participated in Workshop & Quiz Programme and Won cash award of Rs.2000/- and Certificate of Appreciation for reaching final round.
• 10th December 2014 – PGs participated in Management of High Risk Complications in Obstetric cases and CEmONC review in Madurai Region for OG Chief and Blood Bank Medical Officers of CEmONC including EmONC Hospitals and delivered a lecture on “Massive Transfusion Protocol” in the Blood Transfusion in Obstetric Practice Dissemination Workshop, under Tamil Nadu Health System Project (TNHSP).

• 21st April 2023- Professor and H.O.D Conducted the Session -Different aspects of Immunohematology -Chairperson in Dr. Rela Institute And Medical Center.
• 21st April 2023- CME on Master class in Transfusion Medicine Immunohematology updates 2023 conducted by Dr. Rela Institute And Medical Center was attended by the Post-graduate students and our postgraduate won third prize in oral case presentation.
• 20th June 2023- Professor and H.O.D was a “Guest speaker” for the CME on Resolving ABO discrepancies from lab to bed side conducted by Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital.
• 21st July 2023-Professor and H.O.D Conducted the Session Red cell transfusion in complex Immunohematology case scenarios – Possibilities and challenges by Quidel and PGs participated.
